Gunman opens fire in mall

OMAHA, Neb., Dec 5 (Reuters) - A gunman opened fire from a balcony of a shopping mall in Omaha, Nebraska, on Wednesday and shot several people, witnesses said.
At least five people and possibly more were shot at the Westroads Mall, according to witnesses and local media.
One witness still inside the mall said two people were dead and nine wounded, shot at apparently random by a man with a rifle firing from a third-floor balcony. There was no official confirmation of any deaths.
It was unclear if the shooter had been apprehended. A local TV station aired a photograph of a man wearing camouflage in police custody while other reports said a man, presumably the gunman, had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Dozens of shoppers and store workers were seen leaving the mall with their hands up. Others were told by security staff to take cover, with some retreating behind locked doors in storerooms.
President George W. Bush gave an address in Omaha on Wednesday morning but had left the city hours before the incident.
